Attn Chefs! Local Meat Bazaar - RESCHEDULED for NOV. 17th
[update 11.7.08: RESCHEDULED for NOV. 17th!]
When the ladies behind the Secret Eating Society throw a Meat Bazaar, it's good news for everyone!
Marissa Guggiana and Sarah Domke, Slow Food Nation curators who run the grass-fed lamb distributorship Sonoma Direct, are hosting an industry mixer up in Petaluma on Monday, Nov. 17, full of meaty treats and Lagunitas beer.
Sonoma Direct is creating a catalogue of animals being raised locally; what a terrific resource in these times of iffy provenance and factory farming disguised as "organic" (like the Sneaky McSneakersons at Horizon Dairy, for example!)

FALL DEALS: Buy up meat in our inventory to take or be delivered to your restaurant
FIRST DIBS: Pre-order for coming weeks at a great price
FARM FRESH: Order meat directly from ranchers or have it processed by Sonoma Direct
BACKSTAGE PASS: Tour Sonoma Direct’s plant and see where the magic happens
NOSE TO TAIL TASTING: Try recipes of unusual cuts prepared by local chefs
BEER: It’s just not a party without a local brewer; please welcome Lagunitas!
Purchase local animals, meet the growers (like lamb farmer Joe Pozzi, above), and talk about ranch management and feed; let them know what you need, and see what is possible. We will be offering great deals and menu suggestions for some Recession Cuts, from the shoulder and leg. Lagunitas is coming to share beer and there will be some meaty eats, too.
We are envisioning a new level of commitment to our food shed by connecting chefs and retailers directly to the ranchers. We want to close the gap in the food chain. So what better way to do this than to introduce you to some of our growers and let you see all the wonderful livestock being raised right here in our counties?
